In short, yes the country is rural and extremely peaceful. No there aren't so many cars, and the drivers are not reckless so far as I could see on a 1500km tour. The heads in the gutter I haven't found an explanation for so far. People seem to be living at a normal, easy going and relax human pace (quite a change from hectic here). Lots of young people, healthy for all I know.
