If it doesn't fit in there, the hood won't move down enough to hold on the channel on the lens that the hood's little clamps grip into. If that isn't the problem, you might check and make sure all of the little grips are working and not clogged. Just squeeze the buttons and watch them and make sure they are all working. Last resort, get Leica to replace the hood.
