Hi Henning,
Thank you very much for reminding me where I was on that very day! "February
19th, 1965?:-)

My assignment for the day was "Get something different!" Last words from the
city editor.

So there I was on the Parliament Building steps two hours before the
official raising of the flag. Nothing like trying to keep warm on a February
day in Ottawa middle winter. Anyway I had staked my spot as I wanted to be
right front and centre as the flag was presented and prepared to be raised
over the Peace Tower.

As it turned out? I was the only photographer in that spot. The Mounties had
closed off a big area allowing key official people room. But had left me
there as I had been the only photog in my spot early and basically had
established a "OK he's cool" situation.

I have no doubt if there were two, three or more photogs in that spot we'd
all have been pushed back with the hundreds of onlookers for the exciting
moment! Me? Once again living my motto... "Always be first there and last to
leave!" Proving never to forget it!

As it turned out I had exclusive photos shot with a 21mm lens full frames
like no others that were published! Mine? front page almost full page!!!!
:-) Getting my "butt frozen was certainly worth the wait and freezing cold!"

Henning once again "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!" :-)

cheers,
ted

end of April, 1965 I stuck a vinyl flag on my suitcase and hitch hiked
through Europe for 5 months, from Ireland to Austria and Norway to southern
Spain and Italy. The flag got me preferential treatment at all the pickup
points, as many drivers wanted to know what it was. A wonderful adventure.
