Here are two sentences from the body of the app's description: "Stand Here isn?t about being a trail guide, but rather a guide to the most stunning and spiritually natural places that exist. In other words we like knowing that there?s something worthwhile at the end of the trail. We have having [sic] a reward waiting for us at the end." To me that reads as: It's not the journey, it's the destination. Those loving serendipity/surprise need not apply. No doubt it will really appeal to those who want to get to the most destinations ? in the least time ? with the least effort; those for whom a "See 10 Cities in 10 Days!" type of tour might appeal. Those who ask, "Where's the best place to photograph this scene?" I don't know why I'm surprised at this kind of app. And even tho they are giving a gilt-assuaging 10% to organizations seeking to preserve the destinations covered by the app, it still has the smell of commercialism papered over with the veneer of public service and an environmental-conservationist pat on the back. On the other hand, I hope I am entirely wrong here and live to eat my words! In the meantime, yes, we have met the enemy and he is us. Guess I'll stick with the postcard view for these kind of sites and continue to seek the road less travelled. ***************** On Nov 23, 2014, at 11:28 AM, Tina Manley wrote: > PESO: > > I don't know if you landscape people have heard about this app. Even after > reading the essay, I'm not sure I approve. > > https://captureintegration.com/stand-here-with-rodney-lough/ > > Tina > > -- > Tina Manley > www.tinamanley.com > tina-manley.artistwebsites.com > http://www.alamy.com/stock-photography/3B49552F-90A0-4D0A-A11D-2175C937AA91/Tina+Manley.html > > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >
