It would hold up publication. First you'd have to gather all the images, which again is no simple feat, then set them up for a vote (with a reasonable period of time, and uploaded in another medium, such as a web page or gallery). We used to have judged LUG contests a few years ago, and if I remember correctly gathering the images and then arranging the judging wasn't exactly simple. 2. In order to judge the images, all the images would have to be made available for viewing. Once you've seen all the images, the whole element of buying the book for discovery, surprise and delight dissipates (which is one reason that I never made more than the first fifteen pages available for viewing.) 3. One winner means there are 119 losers. With no contest, there are 120 winners. Of course, it's now out of my hands for a successor, but these are my considerations. I think we probably could do the project as a team effort and split up some of the responsibility as well. One thing I would love to see would be for the LUG to select a "Best of the Year" photo from the group for the front and rear cover... Logistically, maybe a small group would pick out four or five of what they think are the best images... and then have the LUG vote... Anyhow, the top two images would get front and back cover... And as an added bonus, winners would get to submit a third image for the inside of the book... Just an idea... Duane _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
