May or may not be significant. Leica have to because we still have those 1954 lens design constraints obviously. No one else is making sensors/cameras specifically optimised for M lenses nor would it make sense to do so. You won't get rich designing for the tiny sub-set of customers with M lenses. You want to sell them your own and for my two cents it seems reasonable to retain all of the capabilities/functions of the originals.
