After looking at suggestions from Geoff and Jayanand, it looks like the way to go is just order everything from Tiger Direct and get exactly what I want. That's what I did with my current PC. The assembly was effortless (my son did it for me). Actually, it's not too ancient - AMD Phenom II 3.4 processor, 16gb ram, WD 10K rpm boot drive and WD 10K rpm scratch disk. Maybe all I need to do is upgrade the ram to 1600 mz 32gb ($250) and swap out the boot and scratch drives for SSD's. Then I can see processes that took four seconds become instantaneous. Or wait until it breaks.
