It is not 1/30, but 1/focal length of the lens - for zooms, the setting they 
are on. As I mentioned before, from the early days, I have used Auto ISO and 
AF, but manual exposure to beat this problem. Many modern sensors require a 
shutter speed of the reciprocal of twice or thrice the focal length to get a 
sharp shot hand held, mainly, I would guess, due to the sensitivity of the 
sensor, which tends to exaggerate any small shake. Nikon, for one, have 
recognized this, and their Auto ISO setting on the D800E has an "Auto 
Minimum Shutter Speed" setting, where you can set anything from 1/4th to 4x 
the reciprocal of the focal length set as the minimum shutter speed. The 
shutter speed will vary as you zoom in and out when using zooms.
