A NYT "professional" might not even work or freelance for the NYT. and/or she could be a total photographic genius, understand you and your work thoroughly and hook you up with a venue that makes you a star. OTOH, he could look at your work, not really understand anything, and deliver some boiler plate advice and waste your time and money. The exact same review can affect different photographers in different ways. What the review means to you now will probably not be the same as it will mean next year. Some galleries do this for free, but then they wouldn't be looking for journalistic style stuff (probably). This isn't something you do only once; as you go along you'll get a better feel for what you want & can do. Also, thicken your skin, drink a ->good<- Scotch afterwards. Straight up, neat.
