Base 1000 is also faster than FW800 and allows you to move your backup drive to a different physical location and AC circuit. I can usually do a full backup via Time Machine of 4tb in 24-48 hours. And that's using a Lacie Network Spacemax. The big hangup in all configurations is that Time Machine takes as much thinking time for tiny files as it does for big ones.
