I LOVE the replacement. I connect it in my mind to certain favorite images like I'm sure all Leica fans do. The first one I had was way out of focus. At a Leica convocation in Pasadena at which Eisenstadt was a speaker, one of the Leica reps checked it by focusing on some kind of chart, told me I was right, and gave his name for me to use to get Leica to replace it. I'm embarrassed to not have his name on the tip if my tongue. You all know him, the tall handsome guy. I have 50mm Summicron, 35mm Summicron asph, and the 90mm which all use the same filter size and are eminently portable. I don't know about any other problems with this lens. I really like it. I think you mean the Tele Elmarit M not the later Elmarit M from 1990 onwards. That one itself was later discontinued and replaced by the Summarit M 2.5. I actually have two of those (just CLA'd). I have no idea on how common this reported problem actually was with those earlier lenses. Since production is reported to have finished in 1989 I would have thought any such problem would be there or not by now? They ought to be relatively cheap, if you could examine one you proposed to buy and were satisfied, I doubt that there is much risk. You might want to allow for that in how much you are prepared to pay of course?.
