We are talking about photographs; results. Prints. They exist and they speak for themselves. Of course they are totally viable. At least ten years this stuff has been going on it was not invented yesterday. You're calling it trickery in quotes but merging and stitching is the accepted standard of the industry for at least wide angle larger format results; there are cameras built with such stiching in mind sporting medium format sliding multi step stitching digital backs.
