Ft. Wayne has a long and interesting history. The army fort, for which the city is named, was the site of a siege by Indians loyal to the British during the War of 1812. The city's oldest building was the home of Miami Indian chief Jean-Baptiste de Richardville (yes, that was the name of an Indian chief!). One of our streets is Harry Baals Drive (yes, its pronounced just the way you think it is!), named for an early 20th century mayor. -- Chris Crawford Fine Art Photography Fort Wayne, Indiana 260-437-8990 http://www.chriscrawfordphoto.com My portfolio http://blog.chriscrawfordphoto.com My latest work! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christopher-Crawford/48229272798 Become a fan on Facebook On 9/5/12 10:07 PM, "Nathan Wajsman" <photo at frozenlight.eu> wrote: >I don't know who the turtleman is, but I do remember thinking, "would I >really want to live in a place that has not produced a human in its >history worthy of having the main street named after him/her, and >therefore had to resort to naming it after some racehorse?"
