You can test this by using the "reset all default devrlop settings' function if you like. Martin Evening describes it that way in his book as well. I do recommend his book as well and I start by setting up with all of his recommendations whenever I upgrade to a new version. As far as I recall this was the case with earlier versions of LR as well. The same default also exists in Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 preferences The only explanation I can think of (except intentional changing of the setting by user) is if it was selected for a previous version which has been upgraded and LR kept the previous settings? That is a guess. I've never used that function myself.
