The "digital" premium of an M9 over M7 is only $2000, which is enough only for 100 rolls of film. The cost per frame is easily perhaps an order of magnitude lower than film cameras. The M Monochrom on the other hand is a specialized camera. With a resolution nearly equal to that of the S2, but in monochrome, it is perhaps best suited for landscape. The high sensitivity of the sensor is quite desirable because it allows the photographers to use a fast shutter speed to reduce/blur. Even at ISO 320, it is quote possible to use the shutter speed of 1/2000 for daylight conditions. At that speed, a tripod is almost unnecessary. The information contained in a 18M monochromatic image is quite equal to that of a 4x5 camera with a high-resolution film / lens or digital medium format cameras. The ability to hand hold a compact camera to capture such an extraordinary level of details is quite appealing, though in limited circumstances.
