Phil, that sounds like my alma mater and the crap they tell their art
students. You know how many of my classmates found a job after graduation?
Keep in mind that I graduated in 1999. Thirteen years ago. Well after 13
yrs, only two have jobs. One is a cashier at Walmart, the other is a
secretary for a realtor. Neither earns enough to live at even the most
basic level. The one at Walmart is a single mom so she's on welfare, the
other has no kids so the government won't help her, so she lives with her
parents. Fifteen of us graduated from the art program at Indiana
University's Fort Wayne campus that year. TWO have jobs that pay poverty
wages. Two of us are self-employed artists, and we are both BARELY making
it. I have my Sonnar for sale because I need the money to make it through
the next month, because sales have been slow and some commercial work I am
doing won't pay off till the end of April. The rest of my classmates?
Unemployed, as they have been for thirteen years. Most places here won't
even consider an art degree holder, not even to be a cashier....the one I
know got lucky, if you consider working for $9 an hour lucky.

Become a nurse, that is where the real money is!
