There are times when they are mostly equal, and many others when one is preferred. The M9 in relatively unobtrusive, the D3 screams out "I'm a camera! Look at me!" I discovered 40 or 45 years ago that although I liked rangefinder shooting, there were just too many times when an SLR was essential. Both produce fine files and many cannot distinguish between the two. I wouldn't want to give up either. And yes, not difference in an 8x10. P.S. Neither my curiosity (desire to hear from a shooter using both Nikon and M8/9) nor my comments above are intended to imply that one system is "better than" another system. Obviously: when we're talking about Leica, Nikon and Canon we're talking about fine quality gear, each with its own subjective nuances. And when we throw medium format into the discussion - well - we're talking about a quantum leap in a certain sets of qualities.
