I had the same problem with my first 5 rolls of CN, which were processed in Germany, they were terrible. When I got back home and had some prints made at the local photo shop they were just fine. Try another lab. My local lab uses a Fuji machine, from what I have observed, and, although I pointed out to the husband and wife team that owns the lab that this was C41 B&W, the images on the CD seem to have a slight brownish tone. Sonny C. suggested I start by desaturating the image, and that seems to be the way to get back to BW. Even though this is film, I find that I like to use the "Open As" route in Elements, opening the image as I would a RAW image from digital. This gives me a chance to adjust the exposure and make a few other touches before going into the Elements editor. I have been picking up single rolls at CVS, but also looked at Amazon. I will probably place an order with them, though it will take some adjustment for me to become accustomed to 36 exp. rolls. I have used 20, then 12, then 24 exp for a long time.
