Sure.  The train wreck in "The Fugitive" was shot largely with 16mm
cameras, the footage inter-cut.  They wrecked a real train.

I've done the same thing when I was shooting an Aaton 16, I had an
assistant helping using a Bell and Howell 16 dr for cutaways.

I would not have tried to rig the B&H as my main camera.

Both cameras used Angenieux lenses, color neg, but the Aaton was far
superior in ergonomics and camera speed stability.
