Subject: [Leica] Help with Nocti

People call it the f 1 and be there lens but I call it the f 1000th of a
second and be there lens as I have at set at that and the lens has to stop
down half the time as there would be too much light to shoot wide open in
many situations. Now with the m9 its a f 4000th of a second and be there
combination. That's a dream come true for Noct. Shooters two more stops in
your favor.
I have to say its cool to shoot it at f 1 but when you have to stop down
either becuae there is too much light or becuae you need some depth of field
its not the end of the world. It performs great as a normal lens which just
has a feature in that it can perform well in low light particularly night..
My big projected slides with a Leica projections lens looked just as good as
my Summicron. Which isn't in some sense saying much but to me its saying
enough. The lens is usable as a general purpose lens if you don't mind the
weight and size and the fact that you are carrying around thousands of
dollars.

I also have to say that putting a made for night shooting high speed
expensive lens on your camera and then thinking you can then shoot slow
film (which you can) I have severe mixed feelings about. I've never done it.
Never plan to.
