I open raw files in ACR with zero sharpening, as a last step apply PK capture sharpening and if needed high pass sharpening with a mask if needed. I used to use the PK output sharpener, but with the latest cameras and printers (Canon 5D MK II and Epson 3880) I see less use for it.
