While the shorting out issue may not be as much of a concern, lighter fluid is still a solvent and you stand to possibly soften up the plastic bits of the switch under the brass top cover. The lighter fluid solution is actually never the right one for camera repair. Yes, it can be a short term stop-gap fix but in the long run it always ends up in repair at a qualified technician. Phil Forrest (who has ruined plenty of cameras and shutters with miniscule drops of the improper lubricant only to have them repaired by more knowledgeable techs.)
