Uh oh, Jim. Watch out!! ;-)

Just kidding of course. Tina's response was anticipated; as I said in my
first email, "I hope Tina doesn't read this!" And her response, in most
respects, is absolutely right: we shouldn't give away our hard work. It
trickles down to devalue the whole profession. I completely understand and
agree with her.

But as you said, sometimes it's a good thing to be generous to those who are
generous to us. My Board has kept me employed for many years, and were, in
essence, honoring my work. A couple of other folks saw it and have purchased
two copies of the full image, which somewhat justifies the free use of the
image, but was completely unexpected. I was just glad I could do something
for the hand that feeds me.

Next month there will most likely be another "free image" of mine. It will
be mailed to about 5,000 households and include my name and web address as
well as a brief (and somewhat nauseating) artist's statement. Who knows,
maybe I'll get a sale or two out of that too. So in essence with this "free
use" I'm getting quite a bit of free advertising.

At any rate, there are exceptions to every rule, but I think Tina's opinion
about don't give away your work is correct 99.9% of the time.
IMO,
(and thanks for coming to my defense!),
Bob
