A 127 zooms right in there. An 70 gives you a half a pop closer. So no its not a cropped version of the ultra conservative and out dated lens 35-70 setup. Not that I'm using the 24.0-85.0 mm f/3.5-4.5 Nikkor lens full frame I sometimes mess its grabbing power.
