I'm not impressed by a "choice" camera on a half assed tripod. I'd rater have the opposite set up. A camera like a Leica deserves a quality tripod. If not a carbon Gitzo a Carbon Manfrotto. There are cheaper carbon tripods by other companies such as Giottos might be ok in a pinch. Another option might be a wood tripod maybe by Berlebach or others. Pinocchio's dad maybe makes one. One tripod brand I'd not heard of before in that game: Leica Geosystems - GST05 Telescopic Wooden Tripod 399244 $220 online "( Light tripod with water-tight plastic wrap for complete protection. Suitable for GPS and target stations with long set-up periods. Packaged length 107 cm (3.51ft), extendible to 176 cm (5.77ft), weight 5.6 kg (12.3lb).)" I just bet you could use it for photography -- Mark R. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/lugalrabs/ > From: Marc Thomas <marc at cs.york.ac.uk> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Date: Tue, 20 Sep 2011 09:18:16 +0100 > To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] OT: Which car to buy... > > Neither, a Lotus Exige (the top comes off with a screwdriver) and the > cameras in the car with me, if they are in the boot they are not > cameras, they are luggage! > As for a carbon fibre tripod...I'll stick with my knackered old Benbo. > Toyora Rav 4 !?!?!?, short wheelbase Land Rover series II soft top, pure > and simple (just like me!) nevermind lasting ANOTHER ten years they > already have lasted 50 years! and you can fix everything on it without a > computer..just various sizes of hammer. > > Marc > On 20/09/2011 08:54, Richard Man wrote: >> So imagine you have a budget of $12K-$17K for a used car, probably around >> 2004-2007 vintage. >> >> Imagine a quick, responsive, air in your hair driving experience of a >> Mazda >> Miata, taking confident turns on the Route One highway along the coast. >> Your >> trust Leica and XPan in the truck with a carbon fiber tripod. >> >> It may not do so well in Death Valley?
