We can be purists and say what we want but they are a boom to photography. Then When ever I put a fixed lens on I think why did I ever need a zoom? They are so light, fast, sharp and elegant. So I go back and forth. Am easily swayed. Very suggestible. I'm used to saving up a whole year for a Leica lens and having it cost in the thousands. Nikon is way way cheaper. They're high end super glass is priced like the single cheapest Leica lens in the catalog. Just over a thousand or certainly under two. So I figure I should be able to swing that even if it takes some time so I can get their best offerings. Not their bazooka lenes. I've never needed long glass all that much and don't know that much about them. I have a 300 4.5 air I got used for just over 100 dollars. My only lens with a tripod ring. Lets just say its sharper than my 70-300mm f4-5.5.6D Nikor AFD ED. -- Mark R. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/lugalrabs/ > From: Philippe Amard <philippe.amard at sfr.fr> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Date: Tue, 23 Aug 2011 11:29:28 +0200 > To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] IMG: Wrinkles > > I'm not saying the lens is sharp, but it works fine for the price I > paid - zip as it was offered with the body at the price of the body or > so > Mark lusts for a lens he says he can't afford yet; that's a cheap > compromise but none of my business I agree. > > Sharpness of this shot : maybe it's just that light bringing contrast > on the weathered face after all? > > I find zooms used to be necessary when shooting slides ;-) > Now I could just crop. > OTT: My Angenieux's performed better than most prime lenses of the > time too. > Travelling lighter is another side of the story; bad back, cabin > luggage, fumbling in the bag and all. > > Amiti?s > Philippe > > > Le 23 ao?t 11 ? 09:47, John McMaster a ?crit : > >> >> I have never been a fan of zooms (for my sort of photography) so am >> happy to >> be back to decent prime lenses ;-) >> >> John >> >> -----Original Message----- >> >> I am not getting anything particularly sharp out of mine either - >> and it is >> the latest f4 version! >> Cheers >> Jayanand >> >> >> On Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 12:40 PM, John McMaster >> <john at chiaroscuro.co.nz>wrote: >> >>> I had one of those on my D100/D300 and never rated it.
