I think the civil war was quite divisive here in ny. You'd think it would be north enough to not be. But it was. Conscripting people to go and die was one sore point. These guys just didn't want to do it. Itchy uniforms. Worse the Jury duty they thought. NY can be quite funny as they name parks and intersections squares which are obvious triangles. And circles squares and visa versa. They don't sweat the small stuff. -- Mark R. > From: Robert Meier <robertmeier at usjet.net> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Date: Fri, 19 Aug 2011 19:28:35 -0500 (CDT) > To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] Union Square - statue of Gandhi > > Is that why it's named Union Square? > > > > On Aug 19, 2011, at 6:57 PM, Mark Rabiner wrote: > >> It was the scene for some famous riots and killings during the >> civil war. >> -- >> Mark R. >> >> >> >>> From: Lawrence Zeitlin <lrzeitlin at gmail.com> >>> Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> >>> Date: Fri, 19 Aug 2011 18:00:27 -0400 >>> To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> >>> Subject: Re: [Leica] Union Square - statue of Gandhi >>> >>> Jayanand, >>> >>> Union Square, actually a triangular piece of land, is located in >>> NYC where >>> Broadway and 4th Avenue converge.
