I have my photos of the Waynedale area and Wells Street area in their own separate projects because I spent so much time photographing them, and because they interest me a lot. Waynedale was an independent small town until the late 1950s, when it was absorbed by the city of Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne is now a city of over 250,000 people. Though Waynedale has been part of Fort Wayne for over 50 years, it still looks like a small town. Wells Street is an old area of Fort Wayne; many of the buildings date from the 19th century. Wells Street itself is mainly a business area, but the surrounding neighborhood is a working class residential area. All of the businesses there are small, locally owned retail and service businesses. Waynedale is also known for its large number of small local businesses, but there are a couple of chains there.
