It is a complex situation, but all employees were told they had to either sign a new contract of employment or lose their jobs. The unions advised them to sign (96% did) and the unions now have a court action against the city council for 'constructive dismissal' from the old contracts for ?12,000,000 (about ?14,000,000). I have lot of sympathy with these workers as I used to work for the council, and I was a union member. I retired early and I am a pensioner who has lost some of his pension as a result of government ''changing the rules', and the union has another court action in progress for that matter. We wait and see.
