Much of the noise people talk about is seen due to underexposure and then lifting those darks to compensate in development. Or pixel peeping at 100% Lightroom allows for easy noise reduction in developing (in concert with capture sharpening. I just checked and I've shot more than a third of my exposures this year at 1000 ISO. See the Tribal Cirque ones I just posted too.
