However the internals of the cameras are identical. An upgrade would require a complete new top plate (and presumably base plate for finish matching) plus new body covering too. Obviously those are only cosmetic for aesthetic preference. Any camera sent for any work is checked and adjusted to new specifications though, since Leica Camera then guarantee the camera for a new twelve months. That last is part of the attraction for some people as the first cameras come to the end of their original 2 years warranty then. You can have that CLA and new guarantee period without upgrading the cosmetics though. Apparently Leica Camera sold all of the first 1500 M9-P immediately and have started making the next 1500. Not a bad mid-life boost for the M9 sales.
