It is a Central American native. http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman/image/123125360 I have shown a Spiral Ginger (Genus is Costus) a few times. http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman/image/130453686 That one is from the same part of the world also. Both are immigrants in my wife's garden.
