My step son is a Lineman by trade and now a works as an IBEW union representative. He's constantly in bargaining sessions. I can assure you that they "fight" for far more than just wages. Those men who climb the high wire, with mega volts running through their gloved hands have had to fight very hard on safety issues; "fighting" for their very lives. Look at the current mining safety conditions; and how the mining corporations don't give hoot for safety if it costs them a dollar or two. These issues go much deeper and broader than the simplistic "taxpayer" needs relief from "public workers" guise. In the case of teachers: no one, in their right mind, will go to college for six years; pay the newly raised tuition fees (due to slashing state university funds) in order to take a job in an inner city school for $20K a year (pay your own health insurance try and to put a little in a 401K because we're dismantling SS). These so-called "leaders" are not thinking past yesterday. They talk about our founding fathers. Those men actually did have intelligence, foresight, a sense of right and wrong. They truly intended to BUILD something of lasting value. Regards, George Lottermoser george at imagist.com http://www.imagist.com http://www.imagist.com/blog http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist
