In the case of firefighters they bargain for decent equipment relating to their safety. In the case of teachers they bargain for class sizes, books and supplies to do their jobs. These budget cuts combined with elimination of collective bargaining will definitely impact the quality of life in our communities in very real ways. School buildings and grounds will deteriorate. School programs will be eliminated (sports, the arts, after school, etc.) Fire safety and police protection will deteriorate. Library services, neighborhood and park maintenance, on and on. We have completely lost sight of the need to MAINTAIN, PLAN, INVEST, CREATE, BUILD to produce jobs, a healthy economy and livable society; and all under the false canards of "small government" and "budget crisis." If a financial crisis exists it exists in the form of hoarding, investment scams, crony capitalism, tax dodging, and the like.
