Allow me to pontificate a bit - definitely the "puppy mill" business is very
nasty. We would never recommend anyone to get a pet from the pet store. In
this country, they may be treated well in the pet stores but their breeding
parts are often not so good. It's a big business to these people. I doubt
they care whether they are breeding puppies, or raising turkeys for food, as
long as it makes them money...

We encourage everyone to adopt from shelters. In fact, our college daughter
just adopted a 4 year old dog herself. For ourselves, we do love the
cardigan welsh corgi, and fortunately, the breed is not as popular as some
(including the tail-less bu similr Pembroke "Queen's" Welsh Corgi) so all
known breeders are small breeders who are breeding for show and pets.
Obviously can't speak for all of them, but every cardi breeders we have met
are very concerned about the breed itself.
