The 21mm f4.5 is reputed to be stellar on film but poor on the M8 and M9 since the exit pupil is too close to the sensor. Haven't tried it myself but there are internet tests out there showing this. The lenes they'd make around would have no way of being similar. A 4.5 lens as for an SLR they'd not even make at this point it would take a rangefinder camera to focus it. Hence the huge advantage of a rangefinder camera. You get to make great use of a very compact "slow" optic. Lightweight. Easy to make ultra sharp. And for very few money units. I'd start off with the VC 4.5 for walking around lens Then on a round numbered birthday get a 21mm Asph 2.8 I'd have the cake made in the shape of one. Or get it as a cookie jar. -------------------- Mark William Rabiner Photography http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/lugalrabs/ mark at rabinergroup.com Cars: http://tinyurl.com/2f7ptxb > From: Montie Talbert <montoid at earthlink.net> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Date: Mon, 15 Nov 2010 12:30:01 -0500 (GMT-05:00) > To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] 21 mm lens for M9 > > Hi Harrison... > > Lots of discussion on this specific topic on Rangefinder Forum, > I own the VC and Zeiss 21 4.5 ZM The Zeiss produces sharper > and higher contrast images hands down and I believe has the > least distortion (4.5) of any 21 including Leica (please no flames) > > If the 2.8 is anywhere close to the 4.5, you'll love it! > Glad you posted because I've been meaning to trade the > 4.5 for the 2.8 (miss the speed) great for travel > though.
