Yesterday I pulled out one 1T drive and replaced it with one 2T drive. Drobo reconfigured everything but the lights flash red and you are instructed not to pull any more drives until it finishes reconfiguring everything. It took 24 hours to reconfigure. I've done this four or five times and have never had a single problem. I have my individual files backed up on other hard drives just in case but haven't had to use them. You couldn't access the information on the drives you remove in anything accept the Drobo. I use the old drives and reformat them for extra storage. If I were you, I would replace the drives one at a time and not risk losing everything.
