Well, during the 60s, the Bond movies stayed pretty true with the Aston
Martin, and even the spoof 1967 Casino Royale honored Fleming by
putting Niven in a Bentley supercharged 4.5 liter, just as in the
books. In 1977, the movie Bond went to the Lotus Esprit, which felt a
bit sacrilegious, but the car was good-looking, packed with great
engineering (Colin Chapman's, not Q's), and most importantly, it was
British. In 1981 the John Gardner Bond novels put Bond into a Saab 900
turbo(!). The film franchise switched back to Aston Martins from
Lotuses with Timothy Dalton starting with The Living Daylights (1987).
The BMW Z3 that shows up in GoldenEye (1996) is virtually unused except
for blatant product placement, and BMWs figure in the next 2 films. The
later Brosnan Bonds restore Bond behind the wheel of the Aston Martin
and this is continued in the Daniel Craig Bonds.
