In 1977, the movie Bond went to the Lotus Esprit, which felt a bit sacrilegious, but the car was good-looking, packed with great engineering (Colin Chapman's, not Q's), and most importantly, it was British. In 1981 the John Gardner Bond novels put Bond into a Saab 900 turbo(!). The film franchise switched back to Aston Martins from Lotuses with Timothy Dalton starting with The Living Daylights (1987). The BMW Z3 that shows up in GoldenEye (1996) is virtually unused except for blatant product placement, and BMWs figure in the next 2 films. The later Brosnan Bonds restore Bond behind the wheel of the Aston Martin and this is continued in the Daniel Craig Bonds. -rei On 10/02/2010 09:12 PM, Mark Rabiner wrote: > BMW is James Bond in an Albert Broccoli and heirs sense not an Ian Fleming > sense. > The books are great to read.
