Subject: [Leica] What kind of camera do you use? (Waring: Contains Leica fetishizing)

I agree with Kyle:
And the way I also see it for the most part: cool as the Leica M9 with an 18
or 21 on it seems to me I'm equally excited about being able to use a 14-24
on a D700 or D3s or D3x.
And the cutting edge plus long existing options from Nikon many of which
I've been working with my entire lifetime. Since I was two.
If I had eight grand put in my lap right now it could easily go to a D3x
instead over an M9.
Another carrot Nikon waves in front of my nose is the new AF-S NIKKOR
16-35mm F/4G ED VR.
I'd like to do a shootout with THAT lens with somebody shooting Leica
16-18-21mm F/4 Tri-Elmar ASPH and see who wins at the end of the day.
Its higher end glass choices going up against virtual reality.
I mean vibration resistantance.

my secret weapon is also my 85 1.8 though I am using it cropped 1.5.
It cuts a thin Noctilux slice with creamy Bokeh and is half the size of the
ubiquitous 85mm 1.4 which uses a Yankee pot roast plate for a uv filter.
But I'm working cropped a 50 1.8 really brings it in and is featherweight.
It in effect of course a 75mm 1.8. The 85mm becomes a 127mm.

I've gotten exciting results from my 300mm f4.5 Nikkor I'd not likely get
with my Leica M system until I get into Viso which is starting to look dim
messing with such things.

What I got Nikon wise which most don't is a 28 1.4 and a 14 2.8.
Working with those optics full frame has gotten me more excited than putting
that money towards an M9. Its fun enough working with them in DX 1.5x Though
they are overblown in size and weight for that crop circle.

Nikon glass is kicking ass.
The new 24 1.4 has just come out for two large.
With two Asperical elements
two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements.
And a Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
Its insidious they are trying to make you forget about your Leica M film
cameras laying in your drawer.
____

Want to spend Leica kind-a money on a Nikon optic?
Pick up ten large for a AF-S NIKKOR 600mm F/4G ED VR.
But for seven large (thousand usd $) you can really get into those tight
hard to reach places with a late breaking AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm F/4G ED VR
II.
I think if something was on the other side of the street you could still get
a picture of it.

The Nikon optics people are not sitting around picking their toenails in
their spare time; but are giving the Leica optics people a run for their
money. Is Canon this exciting? I'm not hearing about it.
But the S2 system to me is more exciting than VR or silent auto focus...
As the print churns out of the Epson.. Blowing away all so called "full
frame" competition.
Cant wait to rent one for a weekend.
