I think you tried (handled) the macro 90mm and didn't care for it. Macro photography would probably be a very small portion of your photography so an expensive solution doesn't make sense. It also sounds like something the size of the M9 is about it. Maybe the G9 or something similar is the way to go. Finding the right lens would be the next search.
