I assume that you are using USB to connect to your machine. It may be worth unhooking *all* other USB devices and seeing if you can get the scanner to work with the PC like that. There has been a fault on some devices - I know that it happened with HP - that some (newer) devices coupled via USB had a tendancy to "seize" the bus and not allow it to become available to other devices and/or simply refuse to work. YOu may want to try connecting it to other USB ports as well just to check that you haven't got a problem with one specific connector. The solution is to reload the drivers that came with the box, connect (in this case) the scanner and then connect everything else back in slowly and it will/ought to work. It's Damn Poor Engineering, but it appears that some devices will simply place too great a load on the host machine. Try Nikon's help centre, they should be abler to offer support on this.
