The V is USB, as is the 5000 (I think).  The 9000 is Firewire.  Makes sense 
to me.  There's the potential to move a lot more data on the 9000 than the 
V/5000 due to the larger negatives, so having a faster connection would be 
useful.  And the added cost of Firewire on the 9000 is a smaller fraction of 
the total cost of the scanner.
