Yes, you make these choices beforehand.  I chose Plus-X, Tri-X and TMZ
to cover a range of speeds (you can end up shooting at 1/1000 and f16
with Tri-X by mid-morning in most of these places, but I also have
some shots by fire/candlilight coming later), to aid in x-ray and heat
resistance (experience has shown that Kodak films handle this best)
and good latency (Tri-X is kind here, but I needed the range of speeds
- it was 3 months before I could get these developed and I knew it
would be that long).  I use Xtol because I like it best - fine grain,
good speed, no weird tonal surprises.  I have access to good water so
I don't get failures or oddities, although I can relate one amusing
story after I've shown all these photos.

Had APX 25 still existed, i'd have taken some of that.  I find Efke
all too often has problems, not caused by me, on my favourite frames.

When I wet print these I'll use Oriental Seagull and develop in a
glycin print developer.
