I love shooting it as a sport.? It is very fast, dramatic and frustrating.? As your grand daughter grows out of bee-hive soccer into a more competitive arena, the photo opportunities go up dramatically - but, so does the equipment demands. Here are some of mine from a couple of years ago as my son started playing in college. http://www.me.com/gallery/#home I do have a theory about the location of action on the field - it's my duck theory.? Shooting soccer is like shooting ducks on the pond.? The closer you get, the more they move away from you.? Since I shoot everything with a 70-200 f2.8 zoom and 1.3x crop camera, I can only cover about 1/4 of the pitch.? So, I just work really hard to get good shots in those areas. I think your shots are very exciting. But my 6 year old grand daughter does not play rugby (yet). So what's a doting grandfather to do? http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Soccer/ Soccer is a sport of development and strategy that offers few dramatic picture opportunities. Certainly nothing like a close play at home base or a basketball layup. But my experience is skewed since I have played, coached, and watched the game since I was a young teen. But I do agree that it is a tough sport to photograph. The best action ALWAYS takes place at the other end of the field, 100 meters away.
