Alastair,

You are off to a good start.  The Dayton scales in #3 and the balance scale 
in #5 look like things I used when I worked as a teenager in the 1940s.  My 
parents had a two-door version of the green Chevy in #1, which could be from 
anywhere from 1949 to 1952.
