Thanks Mike, Philip -- all.

I think I will give GIMP a try on my Mac - even if just to see what it  
can do. It's constantly evolving, as you pointed out it is open  
source. Lots of books from Amazon on GIMP now; so that alone may  
increase it's use and development.

And as you said -- you can't beat the price with a stick!
