I installed Aperture 3 on Wed evening. The upgrade will re-write your
database. Here is my early assessment:

The new brushes actions are a vast improvement giving you the ability
to work on parts of your images - and then adjust your effect
globally. Dodge & burn now is integrated rather than working like an
add on with ver 2.14. Raw engine conversion seems a bit better as well
with more raw formats covered. The B&W conversion isn't any better. I
still prefer Silver Efex Pro for this. The ability to put together a
slide show with images and video with output as a mov file is a great
step forward. More printing options.

I'm glad I didn't make the switch to Lightroom in frustration. If you
do a lot of manipulation of your images ( I don't), you still need
Photoshop. But for many image adjustments, Aperture is all I need. The
face detection and GPS functions are nice to have but the big
improvements in image control are very welcome improvements. And for
$99 upgrade, it is well worth the price.

Happy shooting,
