When I was at Salton Sea, my heart dropped when the M8 did not turn on, even though the previous night I charged it up. I could hear Joseph Yao commenting "See what happens if you buy used?" - so I whipped out the phone cam and at least got some quick pics that I can upload. Overnight I charged the battery up again and the next day (and onward to today) it is fine, even got those pics of the Joshua Tree rainbow. So my guess is that the switch was bumped to the on position and the shutter was "half-pressed" from pressing onto the side of the case the previous day. Anyway, what a digression!! The M8 can be a fickle beast, possibly more fickle than the M9 due to the need of the IR cut filters, but it does produce images that are quite nice. I won't get into its image quality rivals that of medium format hyperbole, because, well, it doesn't, and honestly, image quality wise, the E-3 holds up quite well next to the M8 (but I won't get into that either as we have some people who feel strongly about the superiority of the Leica). OK, I should stop there :-) Please, if your dealer extends your warranty period to cover for the downtime, don't return it yet. Just keep shooting for a few weeks. If you like Leica rangefinder shooting, the M8 is really quite good. On Fri, Jan 22, 2010 at 12:05 PM, <rmcclure2 at woh.rr.com> wrote: > Thanks.
