Hi Ken,

Thanks for your kind comments and for looking.

I always use a tripod though it is very challenging. The rocks are 
incredibly slippery and hard. Setting up in such an uneven environment is 
extremely difficult, especially for macro work. I do use a Novoflex Macro 
slider (actually 2 mounted perpendicularly) to have the ability to adjust 
front to back and left to right by 4 inches. This helps a lot.

But slippery is the biggest danger just walking around with our without a 
tripod. With 25 - 30 lbs of equipment, you're pretty beat up after a few 
hours. Yesterday I almost lost it; I became doubly cautious after that. 
Also, you must always keep an eye on the waves. Rouges are few and far 
between, but it only takes one. 
So as far as going down into the rocks on a negative tide at Weston Beach, 
it's always exciting, exhausting and never the same twice. My idea of a 
perfect place!!

And just in general, for sharp landscapes, I don't think it can be done 
consistently well without a tripod. Mirror lockup and a tripod are a must, 
especially if you print large which I like to do.

Gorgeous.  As you say, they just glow.  It is always a treat to find that
soft overcast light ("zone good" I believe the term is).  Although I have
been in SoCal and north a lot on business, I have never made the Pilgrimage
to Point Lobos.  Maybe at the end of April.  Given the exposure times in
your files, it looks like tripods are no problem, unless you have an
extraordinarily steady hand!
