That is interesting.  Modern refrigerators are designed, according to the 
fine print, for an environment of 50degF or higher.  In order to keep our 
garage refrigerator working properly, I have to place a 7 watt bulb in the 
lower compartment and let it burn continuously.  That triggers the 
thermostat so that the freezer compartment stays at zero or below.
